Bootscout

The footer supports a navigation area, social media links and a text area for information such as charity number. This guide will only cover customizing the footer but additional changes can be made as part of WordPress full site editing.

Setting / creating a navigation menu

1. Navigate to Appearance -> Editor
2. Click on the footer at the bottom of the page and then click on the navigation on the left of the footer.
3. Click select menu
   1. If a menu already exists, that can be selected now
   2. Alternatively, select create new menu if you wish to create a menu from scratch. The plus icon can be used to add new menu items
   3. If no menu is required then the navigation block should be deleted
4. Click save, located at the top right of the window

Setting social media links

1. Navigate to Appearance -> Editor
2. Click on the footer at the bottom of the page and then click on the social links on the right of the footer.
3. Current icons can be edited with new links by licking on them
4. Click on the plus icon to add more links
5. If an icon is not required then it can be deleted by clicking on the three dots to show more options and then clicking delete
6. Click save, located at the top right of the window

Updating the footer after updating Bootscout

WordPress 5.9 introduced theme parts which we are using for the footer. If an update for Bootscout makes a change to the footer this is not automatically applied to the footer on your site. To apply the updated version to your site you will need to reset the footer before reapplying the changes you have made.

1. Navigate to Appearance -> Editor
2. Click on page at the top center of the window
3. A small menu will be displayed with two items at the bottom; Header and Footer
4. Click on the three dots to the right of footer before clicking on reset customizations
5. Click save, located at the top right of the window
6. Reapply any customisations you had previously applied to the footer
7. Click save, located at the top right of the window
