What’s Changed

This is a major update which removed Bootstrap and Gulp. All theme styling has been re-created to improve compatibility out of the box with more plugins and WordPress customisation option.

A full list of changes is as follows:

Patterns

  • Added a third (default) header pattern, and renamed existing headers renamed for clarity
  • Updated footer pattern with support for multiple menus, columns, and contact information
  • Changed default footer pattern colour to purple
  • Updated Scoutish homepage pattern to reflect the new Scouts website design
  • Updated CEOP block with additional information

WooCommerce

  • Fixed checkout header template part so it only appears in template parts if the theme is installed and active
  • WooCommerce button colours now use theme CSS variables, meaning they respond correctly to colour scheme changes

Layout & styling

  • Fixed submenu misalignment on smaller screens
  • Improved header layouts on smaller screens
  • Separator height increased to 3px
  • Updated X/Twitter references to Bluesky in header and footer patterns

Under the hood

  • Removed Bootstrap dependency
  • Removed Gulp build process. Theme CSS is now plain CSS with no build step required
  • Comments can be shown on all pages (disabled by default for new pages)
  • Various CSS tidying and removal of redundant rules
  • Minimum PHP version updated to 8.2

How to update from 2.7.x

Install the updated theme files as normal. If you have customised any templates or template parts in the site editor, those
customisations will not be overwritten on update. To use the new templates and template parts the current versions on an active install will need to be reset. These can be reset from the WordPress admin dashboard by clicking on template actions and “reset to default”:

Dashboard → Appearance → Editor → Templates
Dashboard → Appearance → Editor → Patterns → All template parts

The full list of templates and template parts that have changed are as follow:

Template parts

  • Header
  • Footer
  • Checkout header (WooCommerce)

Templates

  • Page
  • Single post

After resetting templates and template parts any menus, social links, etc. will need to be configured again.
